Well there ain't no bread in the breadbox... |
Cuz we ain't go no dough.
One of my favorite JGB tunes.
Anyone with a decent handle on live JGB have any particularly stellar versions to recommend?
I'll kick it off with 11/5/93 -- which absolutely smokes.

11-15-91 at the Garden. Not my favorite, but definitely one of them. Having footage of the performance is an added bonus:

Yes 10/31/92! I wish I had a pristine version of that one. I only have a somewhat hissy MP3. Great Breadbox. Also love The Maker.

Silly me, I thought this was a political thread. That crazy Obama - he's so far left he's gone right.
So, anyone know where I can buy a used "Deadheads for Obama" t-shirt?
Truly a great song.

The Pure Jerry release from Hampton November 9th 1991 has a fine version. In fact it's really good show from top to bottom.

I was at the 10/31/92 JGB show. It was great. Jerry's first show back after the exaustion break. Kesey was the emcee for the costume contest. Anyway, that breadbox version is on shining star, or the other official release from that era, if you want a clean version. Not sure who wrote the song, but I have it on a roy rogers & norton buffalo disc. I heard Jerry do it at San Jose State a year or so before and people were handing out notecards with the lyrics of breadbox so people could sing along.

Thanks RMeyers. I was also in attendance. Jerry was truly happy to be up there playing for all of us. "How y'all doin'?".....Crowd ROARS.
I'll check out the Shining Star release. I did not know excerpts of 10/31/1992 were included.

Re: Well there ain't no bread in the breadbox... |
I can't guarantee it, but I would put money on it being the same version. I also had the audience tape. Right into C'est la vie after "so, how y'all doing" was perfect. I would like a clean copy of that song. That show and the bill graham tribute were the two best experineces I had at shows due to the overall mood of the crowd.
